Tired in a Book Fair
Vishnu Bagdawala
she sits on the floor
massaging her feet,
the stones under the laid carpet
pricking her. facing a flower bed
in the middle of nowhere.
her face looks tired, her eyes
look into the distance.
when her son finally comes
whispers in her ear,
“I want a popcorn.”
she pulls out a ten-rupee note
from her bosom and hands
it to him.
He walks away
feeling the warmth of
of his mother in his hands.
